Nationals from the accession (or A8) countries (Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic) who find a job in the United Kingdom are required to apply to register with the Home Office under the ‘Worker Registration Scheme’ as soon as they find work. To work in the United Kingdom, a full 10-year passport is essential. EEA nationals are free to enter the United Kingdom for up to 3 months to look for work or to try to set themselves up in business. You should register with the Worker Registration Scheme as soon as you start a new job and within one month of starting a job at the very latest. If you do not apply within one month of starting a job, your employment will be illegal after that date until you have received a valid registration certificate, and you may have to stop working. Once you have been working legally in the UK for 12 months without a break, you will have full rights of free movement and will no longer need to register on the Worker Registration Scheme. If you have already registered on the Worker Registration Scheme, and have been working in the UK for 12 months, you may now wish to apply for a residence permit, which confirms your right to live and work in the UK. Further information is available on the Immigration and Nationality Directorate website. You should apply for a residence permit using form EEA1. If you need further information, please contact the Immigration and Nationality Enquiry Bureau. To apply to register with the Worker Registration Scheme you should complete application form WRS giving your name, address, date of birth, nationality and your employment details. The charge for a first application is £90. You must fill in the payment slip on the application form. Those making multiple applications are now able to make one payment to cover the full cost of the total number of applications being submitted using the new multiple payment slip. A maximum of 25 applications can be submitted with one payment. Please note, you will still need to fill in a separate WRS form for each person registering on the scheme. |
